Three Signs You’re Ready for Coaching

“Should I have a leadership coach?” I get this question all the time from people in every level of leadership. If you ask me, every leader should interact with a coach at least once in their career. Does that mean that every leader is ready for coaching, or that you need a coach for your entire leadership career? Not necessarily.

Here are some of the signs I've noticed that indicate a leader is ready for a coach.

One: You’re overwhelmed.

It sounds counterintuitive to add something else to your plate, another meeting, another thing to think about when you're already stacked full. Sometimes this is the best time for a coach to enter the conversation because a coach is going to help walk through your priorities and call out things that you might be doing or not doing that are holding you back. We might take a look at your calendar in a fresh way that helps you offload or reprioritize. We might talk about what things you should be delegating right now but are still holding on to. We might talk about your morning routine and how it makes or breaks the rest of your day. When you're waiting for the right time to start, chances are it'll never come.

Two: You’re going through a transition.

Maybe you just got promoted. Maybe you just switched departments or companies altogether. Maybe you're getting ready to take on new responsibility, or you're finding yourself with a lot more responsibility than you used to have. When you really want to be intentional with how you're showing up to work every day and even how you're showing up at home, having someone in your corner to offer support and accountability can be a game changer for yourself and for those around you.

Three: You want to level up.

I've worked with a lot of leaders who are genuinely in a great place, so much so that they're ready for more. They want to be intentional with the people that they lead, looking ahead to what the next step is for them.

If there's an opportunity on the horizon that you want to make sure that you're prepared for, we can create a path forward that helps you prepare for what's coming.

If any of this sounds like you, I'd love to meet you. I am on a mission to help leaders become the best version of themselves that they can be, because everyone deserves to work for an awesome leader, and you deserve the encouragement and support to help you step into that.
